The ARCEM Heavy Gorget is designed for practitioners who want maximum protection of the neck and larynx.
Based on the ARCEM Light Gorget, this version is taller, with an articulated construction offering a double layer of hard protection, without sacrificing mobility.
The outer shell is pre-drilled on both sides to allow for additional clavicle or shoulder protectors to be added (not yet available, but you are free to build your own!)
Its strap-less design (it "clips" on around the neck) offers maximum comfort and adaptability to different neck sizes. The plastic can be heated in hot water or with a hair dryer and lightly re-moulded for a custom fit.
Adaptable - can be worn under a jacket or on its own.
- One size
- Articulated double layer construction.
- Hard throat and larynx protection
- Integrated rigid blade catcher
- Mobility and comfort
- Helps to meet competition rules

The Arcem Gorget series is a really nice lightweight gorget that doesn't fight you as much as how many of its competitors do. It is a very nice alternative to the now discontinued Leon Paul gorget, while offering a more robust construction (The rivets on the Leon Paul gorget tend to rust and break). The catch on the upper plate is a really nice touch and I also really like how easy and fast I can put it on and take it off. I don't really see the point of the two lower plates, however. They are extra surfaces to soften an impact, sure, but I don't think they are actually doing very much in the way of protection for the neck. Also, if you have long hair, the plates will catch and pinch strands, making it a little uncomfortable sometimes. Additionally, I think that, although it is great, in and of itself, that it is priced a little high for what it is. It is a great design and I really do recommend a gorget for any type of practice/sparring, but it is essentially craft foam, four plastic rectangles, two screws, and some cord.
